  Welcome to the UNDP/GEF/EU project "Strengthening Protected Areas System of the Komi Republic to Conserve Virgine Forest Biodiversity in the Pechora River Headwaters Region" (2008-2016).
   Wherever our life takes us, we all carry inside our hearts warm memories of places from our childhood, where we experienced our first adventures or met our first love. How often do we have nostalgic reflections about our homeland - peaceful villages, landscapes, trees and streams from our past! How often do we seek relief in these cherished images, and find comfort, peace, and hope in them!
   Each of us has at least once been to some of the most charming corners harbored in the vast territory of Russia and haS fallen in love with them. To some wanderers these treasures of nature might even have unveiled a new meaning of life. The Urals Pripechorye undoubtedly possesses such power, and offers a rich and unique wildlife, that one can hardly find elsewhere nowadays. This unforgettable place never fails to impress with its unique flora and fauna, and the striking beauty of its virgin landscapes.


UNDP/GEF project “Strengthening Protected Area System of the Komi Republic to Conserve Virgin Forest Biodiversity in the Pechora River Headwaters Region” is aimed to increase representation of Scandinavian and Russian taiga, tundra and forest tundra eco systems of the Ural mountains within the system of federal, regional and local protected territories. The initiative is focused on the Republic of Komi which is the main depository of these eco systems biodiversity. The project will serve the process of reconstruction, strengthening system and institutional potential of the reconstructed system management and to diversify revenues flows to make SPNA system more stable financially.

From 2013 a Clima East project started: Supporting Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Neighbourhood East and Russia.
