The Ecological Manifesto on Conservation of the Biodiversity in the Komi Republic (hereinafter referred to as the Manifesto) within the framework of the UNDP/GEF Project “Strengthening the Komi Republic Protected Areas System to Conserve Virgin Forest Biodiversity in the Pechora River Headwaters Region (UNDP/GEF KR PA Project)” (hereinafter referred to as the Project) is considered to be an integrated instrument for efficient development of social and environmental responsibility of the government, business community and society, including their attitude towards protected areas (PAs) as well as their environmental management and openness, and readiness to conduct a dialogue. The Komi Republic has excellent opportunities for establishing partnership relations between protected areas and various institutions. The Komi Republic economy is significantly based on oil and gas industries, mineral resources and timber industry, and its environmental responsibility, therefore, is of great importance in interregional and international relations.

 
 
The Ecological Rating conducted within the framework of the UNDP/GEF KR PA Project is considered to be an integrated assessment of the level of social and environmental responsibility among the enterprises and organizations, including their attitude towards protected areas, the environmental management, and the level of their transparency and readiness to carry on a dialogue with the public.
